There are two sizes of playing cards being sold today, and they are only slightly different. A poker-size deck of cards measures 2.50 inches wide, and 3.50 inches tall. A bridge-size deck of cards is 1/4 of an inch narrower, so it measures 2.25 inches wide, and 3.50 inches tall (same as a poker deck). The Magic Cafe Forum Index » » The workers » » Bridge Vs. Hood Veteran user 326 Posts | 0 I know this has been discussed here before and I always have used poker size cards but I when I palm a poker card, the card is physically wider than my hand so it always flashes. It is not a technique problem it is anatomical issue. This being the case and I really want to use a card to wallet what are some of your thoughts on using bridge cards? Just use them don't worry or ..... Also I am almost a completely full time magician so I would just use bridge cards and ditch poker size. Just kinda stuck, any thoughts would be great.

Merc Man Inner circle Nuneaton, Warwickshire 2652 Posts | 0 Just to add, and l could be wrong, but with palming cards or coins, confidence and misdirection are just as critical as technique. If Poker size are giving you problems and your confidence palming them is shot, then you will undoubtedly telegraph this fact. Give Bridge size cards a go - and see how you get on with them. R.E. Byrnes Inner circle 1206 Posts | 0 I wish there were a convention of using bridge-sized because i, too, find them easier to handle. yes, the stories of great card handlers with small hands are legend; that doesn't, however, obviate the fact that smaller cards are, above all, easier to palm. but because bridge-size cards are so unusual, it seems they would be conspicuous. and the difference isn't all that great. there's a clear convention of using poker-size cards in magic. I'd suggest simply working within that convention and accentuating the fact that people with small hands have excelled, rather than the equally true fact that it would be easier to work with smaller cards.

metaljohn Loyal user Montreal, QC 280 Posts | 0 I have long fingers and my hands aren't that wide. To top it off, I have 'windows' between my fingers. I'm pretty sure it took me longer than the average person to perfect palming. For almost two months, I'd just practice palming a card. Even while watching TV or something. I drove my girlfriend up the wall . I still think if I had bigger hands, it'd be easier, but as many have said before, practice and misdirection is key. My misdirection is good enough that I haven't been caught yet. Even my girlfriend who's seen me practice palming cards so much was fooled the other day when I showed her a new trick that involved a card palm.
Hood Veteran user 326 Posts | 0 Today is the first day I really have ever used bridge cards, I tried some sleights out and as I thought much easier and I feel like I have a lot more control plus palming now is a non issue. I tried out a few effects today and not one person noticed the cards were small. I guess this may be one of those things were I was thinking too much, just use what fits me better and not worry about it. I know I will get some words from time to time from other magicians but I figure what works for them doesn't have to work for me. As my mentor say's why make things harder on yourself if it is not needed. Thanks again for all your reply's.

If you get hassled by other magicians for this, don't pay attention to it. Since you’re going to play the games for a long time, good quality playing card brands will help you immensely in that.
If you’re smart enough then you need to avoid using those cheap playing card brands. Even the cards used in the top casinos are not that costly. You can easily afford them at low costs. So, take my advice and play poker with decent cards which are easily affordable. Don’t be hesitant to spend some few extra bucks for these premium playing card brands. They are definitely going to be worth it.
Card Specifications
Before we get into the top 5 playing card brands, there are certain specifications that need to be understood. Those are as follows:
- Playing Card Size: The card size matters a lot when you play poker. It should feel comfortable while playing. You shouldn’t feel any discomfort while dealing the cards, or even while playing. I have mentioned only those playing card brands which are of perfect size to play poker. You guys no need to worry about it. You can buy the brands that I have mentioned any day.
- Readability: This is another factor that is going to affect the gameplay. When we talk about readability, we talk in the index of cards. Index of the cards is basically the size of the numbers or letters on the face of the card. There are two types of index in playing cards. Standard Index and the Jumbo Index. Most of the Casios prefer the Jumbo Index cards since it is easy to read and look through. Standard Index would be hard to look at for any player who is new to the game.
- Texture: Texture is probably the most noticeable feature between good quality cards and the bad quality ones. You should be able to shuffle the cards easily. The cards should not slip from hands at any time. Also, the thickness of the cards should be comfortable as to at least hold the cards easily. Some people like playing with really thin cards, while others not so much. I personally like to play with really thin cards. For me, it’s easy to hold and shuffle if it’s thin. Among the playing card Brands that I have mentioned KEM playing cardsare the thinnest playing card brands that you can purchase in the market.
- Graphics and Design: This is an added bonus if the playing cards are good looking. The design should be simple and good looking. The colors from the back should not reflect too much. Or, the colors shouldn’t be too bright for any players to get irritated from it. Rest assured, the playing card brands that I have mentioned have really good graphics and design.
Okay, now we know what we can expect from these brands, let’s get straight into top 5 playing card brands to play poker.
