1000 Islands Charity Poker Run Accident

  

Organizers of the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run have canceled the event scheduled to take place July 17-19, 2020.

After previously voting to green-light the event, the poker run committee decided to pull the plug because the route would have taken participants into Canadian waters.

“Half of the run is in Canadian waters, and we’re not allowed to cross the border,” organizer and event president Bobby Cantwell told Speedboat. “Canada just extended the no-travel ban through July 22.”

The 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run benefits the Make-a-Wish Foundation and River Hospital, and unfolds in the community of Clayton, NY. Traditionally, the event begins with a welcoming Street Party on Thursday, which is July 16 of this year.

  1. With registration entering just its seventh day, 94 powerboats already have been signed up by their owners for the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run in Clayton, N.Y. According to Jeff Morgan, one of organizers for the event, there are still slots open for the July 21 run, which is heading into its sec.
  2. On the road tomorrow to Clayton, New York for the first 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run. The run was limited to 70 boats and sold out and goes 120 miles from Clayton to Ogdensburg and back.

The 1000 Islands International Charity Poker Run is a grassroots volunteer-driven event, dedicated to the charitable needs and economic development of the Thousand Islands Region. The goal of the 1000 Islands International Charity Poker Run is to host events that promote the local river communities and preserve the historic integrity of the Thousand Islands.

    • The River Community Wellness Program for Treatment of Veterans

Our objective is to raise money through Corporate Sponsors, silent auction items, t-shirt sales and Boater entry fees.

The 1000 Islands Charity poker Run is intended to be a safe family-friendly event. There will be many things to experience, both on and off the water. Expect more ‘slow zones’, allowing for participants and spectators alike to have a clear view of the boats at a safe distance.
