This is how to add a 3rd infusion slot into a ring that has been attuned. The word Attuned and Infused are interchangeable as they just way of getting an in. The correct title of this article is Mighty +9 Agony Infusion. The substitution or omission of the + is because of technical restrictions. Double-click to apply to an unused infusion slot. And there's a Mystic Forge recipe to give an Infusion that gives both Power and Agony Resistance. But the cost for that combined infusion is, perhaps, a bit inhibitive. There was also the infused rings that came with +5 but no longer exists. Now its just 2 blank slots. Before all we could add was the +5 versatile slots.

What is Agony?
Agony is an effect unique to Fractals of the Mists that hurts a lot and can’t be cured, removed or countered. The amount of Agony Resistance required increases every 10 fractal scales.
Agony Resistance (AR)
The only possible way to protect yourself is to infuse your equipment with Agony Resistance. Agony Resistance is an attribute like Power or Vitality and can be found under your hero panel.
How do I get Agony Resistance (AR)?
You can increase your AR only by infusing your equipment. To infuse your gear you need two components – Ascended item and infusion.

Every Ascended item has at least 1 Offensive, Defensive, Utility or Agony Infusion slot.
Offensive Infusion slot
All Ascended and Legendary weapons come with offensive infusion slot.
- One-handed and off-handed weapons with only one offensive infusion slot
- Two-handed weapons come with two offensive infusion slots
All Ascended Rings, Amulets and Accessories in two variants with either Offensive or Defensive infusion slot.
- Ascended items are unique, so you can’t equip two identical rings. But every ascended item has a twin with only different infusion slot. Purchase the twin with different infusion slot to get two ascended items with the same stats.
Backpacks come with either 1 offensive or 1 defensive infusion slot. You choose the slot during crafting.
Defensive Infusion slot
All Ascended armor pieces come with one defensive infusion slot each.
All Ascended Rings, Amulets and Accessories in two variants with either Offensive or Defensive infusion slot.
- Ascended items are unique, so you can’t equip two identical rings. But every ascended item has a twin with only different infusion slot. Purchase the twin with different infusion slot to get two ascended items with the same stats.
Backpacks come with either 1 offensive or 1 defensive infusion slot. You choose the slot during crafting.
Utility Infusion slot
The utility infusion slot is exclusive to Amulets only.
All amulets come in sets of the same stats but one with offensive, one with defensive infusion and one utility slot.
Always choose utility slot on the Amulet because that’s the only ascended item that can hold +20% Magic Find infusion purchased from any Laurel Vendor.
Agony Infusion slot
Agony Infusion slot is very different from the other three. It’s harder to obtain, and requires you to run Fractals at scales 20 and higher.
The only item type with Agony Infusion slot is Ascended (Infused) which is an upgrade of Ascended. We will call these just Infused.
Infused items have two infusion slots, one offensive or defensive and one agony infusion slot.
Infused items only exist in form or rings and backpacks.
- Infused rings can drop from Fractals at scales 20 and higher from the end chest.
- You can upgrade an Ascended ring to its Infused variant using the Mystic Forge. Combine the Ascended ring in Mystic Forge with 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence + 3 Globs of Coagulated Mists Essence + 5 Vials of Condensed Mists Essence to Infuse it.
There are two types of Infusions that provide Agony Resistance – Versatile Simple Infusion and +X Agony Infusion.
Versatile Simple Infusion
Versatile Simple Infusion can be attached to any Offensive, Defensive or Utility slot.
It can not be attached to an Agony Infusion slot.
You can purchased it from BUY-4373 for 75 Fractal Relics. This vendor is inside the Fractals of the Mists before you enter the actual fractal. Purchased from vendors showed on a picture below:
Magical Infusion

Magical Infusion can only be used on an Amulet with Utility infusion slot.
Always choose Magical infusion over Versatile Simple infusion if you can stay alive in Fractals without the extra AR.
+X Agony Infusion
These Infusions can be only attached to Agony Infusion slot.
Gw2 How To Add Agony Infusion Slots Online
It can NOT be attached to Offensive, Defensive nor Utility slot.
You receive a couple +1 Agony Infusions as a drop after you complete a fractal like shown at picture on the right ->
You will need at least 16 of these.
After you gather enough +1 Agony Infusions you will also need a artificer at level at least 100.
Switch to the discoveries and put together two +1 Agony Infusions and one Thermocatalytic Reagent.
Refine all 8 +2 Infusions into 4 +3 Infusions. And then continue all the same way until you have 1 +5 Infusion.
You can keep refining even above +5. There is no limit, you can craft until you run out of resources.

But always make sure that your total Agony Resistance is multiple of five, because AR 44 is the same as 40 and 39 is the same as 35.
